Because of the close proximity of Hurricane Dorian, the Village of North Palm Beach is continuing its preparation efforts and urges residents also to remain prepared.

Village Actions

  • Opened the Village Emergency Operation Center Sunday at 6 a.m. (it will remain open until the threat from the storm passes).
  • Opened a 24-hour hotline for citizens to report hurricane-related issues and get information (561) 904-2147.
  • Adjusted staffing hours to ensure appropriate Village response to incidents or needs.
  • Continues monitoring the Palm Beach County Emergency Operations Center.
  • Continues posting public safety advisories through social media and website.

  • Palm Beach County Public Schools are closed through Wednesday.
  • Village offices and the Village Library are closed Tuesday. Updates will be provided when they re-open. Village Parks are closed until further notice.
  • The Village Country Club Golf Course and Tennis Center are closed until further notice.

Safety awareness

  • If you use a generator, DO NOT run it in the house or garage, and do not run it near an open window. This creates a great danger from carbon monoxide fumes.
  • DO NOT connect your generator to the house directly. Instead, connect your electrical items to the generator with a heavy-duty extension cord for outdoor use.
  • If traffic lights are out or not working properly, threat the intersection like a 4-way stop sign.
  • Avoid driving through high water. It may be deeper than it appears, or there might be submerged power lines or debris.
  • Stay away from any downed power lines, even if they appear harmless.
  • To get information about power outages, call FPL at 1-800-4-OUTAGE (1-800-468-8243), or download the FPL app from Google Play or the App Store.

Evacuation shelters

  • Palm Beach County operates three shelters in the North County area for Village residents.

Special needs shelter

  • Palm Beach County has established a Special Needs Program to provide for citizens with certain medical problems during a major emergency. For more information, visit their website or call (561) 712-6400.

Pet-friendly shelter

  • Palm Beach County offers a limited space pet-friendly shelter.
