Community Policing

Community Policing Officer Jovica Tonkin

Police Officer Tonkin has served the Village of North Palm Beach for over three years with a strong commitment to trust, integrity, and service. He’s built meaningful connections with the community members, business owners and youth, always striving to earn their trust through respect, accountability, and compassion. Whether it’s through public events, problem-solving alongside residents, or simply being a familiar and approachable face in the neighborhood, Police Officer Tonkin has seen the difference that genuine relationships can make in building safer, stronger communities.

The Community Policing position is not just a career, but more an opportunity to live the very mission that inspired him to wear the badge. He believes his passion for community engagement, along with his proven ability to foster trust and collaboration, will allow him to serve effectively and continue strengthening the bond between law enforcement and the community.

About Community Policing

All Police Officers are active community policing practitioners and as part of the North Palm Beach Police Department philosophy, we work in partnership with the community to solve problems and protect life and property. A major component of fulfilling this philosophy is to work to prevent crime from occurring and preventing citizens from becoming victims of crime.

Community Oriented Policing is the outreach that encourages citizen involvement with the police, because truly, working together is the manner in which we can accomplish the goal of preventing crime in North Palm Beach.

Objective

The objective of Community Oriented Policing is to:

  • Provide crime prevention programs to the community that are designed to heighten citizens' awareness of crime.
  • Data driven directed patrol to displace crime from the community, assigned to where crime is believed to have developed.
  • Educate citizens in areas that can reduce the chances of becoming a victim
  • Encouraging the community to work with the police to help reduce criminal activity in the Village.
