Lightning Detection Systems in NPB

Lightning Detection system

The Village of North Palm Beach Parks and Recreation Department has four Thor Guard Lightning Prediction units.

The Thor Guard units are located at:

  • Anchorage Park: Monitored 8:00 a.m. to 10:00 p.m.
  • Osborne Park: Monitored 8:00 a.m. to 9:00 p.m.
  • Community Center: Monitored 7:00 a.m. to 9:00 p.m.
  • NPB Country Club: Monitored 7:00 a.m. to 8:00 p.m.

When the Thor Guard system alarm sounds, all facilities temporarily close until the all clear signal is given. We ask that you seek appropriate shelter which includes the following:

  • Inside buildings
  • Hardtop vehicles
  • Other lightning protected facilities and amenities
  • As a last resort, seek low-lying areas
If you live close to one of the above facilities, you may hear the horn alarms going off.   One long blast signals that lightning is in the area - seek shelter. Horn will give 3 short blasts signaling it is all clear and you can resume outdoor activity. When system is under storm warning, a flashing yellow light continuously strobes until the all clear signal has been given.
