K-9 Unit

Police K-9s provide an excellent and economical tool for the community. Their use is multifaceted and includes; searching for criminals, missing persons, illegal drugs, suspect apprehension and officer protection. Their mere presence and knowledge of their presence at a scene has a significant deterrent effect.

Police service dogs in Florida are trained and certified according to standards established by the Florida Law Enforcement K-9 Association.

K-9s are tested in the following areas of proficiency:

  • Patrol Dog (which includes obedience, agility, searches and suspect apprehension)
