8
  • A Business Tax Receipt is an annual tax levied for the privilege of operating any business within the limits of the Village of North Palm Beach. The tax is required pursuant to Florida Statute 205 and applies to any business located in North Palm Beach whether at a commercial location or operated out of a residence. Please call 561-841-3365 for more information.

    Business Tax Receipts
  • No. Only businesses physically located in the Village of North Palm Beach are required to pay a Business Tax Receipt to the Village. However, most businesses operating within Village limits must register with the Village of North Palm Beach to work here.

Contractors, landscapers, pool service companies among others must register each year to be in compliance with registration requirements. Call the Building Department at 561-841-3365 for more information.
    Business Tax Receipts
  • Business Tax Receipts are based on the type of business, and are set by Village Ordinance. For commercial spaces, a Fire Inspection Fee based on square footage and/or occupancy also applies. Professionals who possess a license such as doctors, dentists, nurses, attorneys, architects, engineers, CPAs, etc. are required to pay a tax for their license(s) in addition to the tax for the business itself.

Business Tax Receipt payments are due when submitted and are renewed annually on September 30th. Please call 561-841-3365 for more information.
    Business Tax Receipts
  • Business Tax Receipt fees are only pro-rated for the 2nd half of the fiscal year. Beginning on April 1st, 1/2 of the standard fee will be charged for the remainder of the fiscal year for all Business Tax Receipts. Refunds will not be issued for businesses leaving the Village or going out of business prior to the renewal period. Please call 561-841-3365 for more information.

    Business Tax Receipts
  • The Village of North Palm Beach will send a renewal notice in July each year as a courtesy to local businesses. The Village is not required to do so, and failure to pay a renewal by September 30th each year will result in a late penalty regardless of whether or not a renewal notice is received.

It is your responsibility to pay the tax each year by September 30th to avoid late penalties. For payments received after September 30th but before October 31st, a late fee of 10% applies. An additional 5% per month is added to a maximum of 25% for payments received on or after November 1st. Please call 561-841-3365 for more information.

  • The current millage rate is 7.50 mills. This is equal to $7.50 per $1,000 of assessed value. So if a house is assessed at $400,000, and the owner has a $50,000 Homestead Exemption, the house is taxed only on $350,000. So multiply 350 x $7.50, and that owner would pay $2,625 in Village taxes.

Keep in mind, other governmental bodies such as Palm Beach County, the School District and others also charge a tax to each property, so only 35 percent of the total taxes paid on a house in North Palm Beach goes to the Village.  Since 2,625 is 35 percent of 7,500, the property with a $400,000 value and a $50,000 Homestead Exemption would pay a total of $7,500 on an annual tax bill to all local governmental entities combined.

  • Seat Belts: Florida law requires all front seat passengers wear seat belts regardless of age. All passengers, regardless of location in the vehicle, who are under 18 years of age must wear seat belts.

Car Seats: The following is taken from Florida law: “Every operator of a motor vehicle as defined herein, while transporting a child in a motor vehicle operated on the roadways, streets, or highways of this state, shall, if the child is 5 years of age or younger, provide for protection of the child by properly using a crash-tested, federally approved child restraint device. For children aged through 3 years, such restraint device must be a separate carrier or a vehicle manufacturer's integrated child seat. For children aged 4 through 5 years, a separate carrier, an integrated child seat, or a seat belt may be used.”

  • Authorization to carry concealed firearms is described in Section 790.06 of the Florida Statutes and regulated by the Florida Department of State. Persons, who are licensed to carry a firearm in a state other than Florida who wish to determine if their license applies in Florida, may find the information they need through the Florida Department of State’s website. Regardless of where one has obtained their firearms license, when in Florida, you are accountable to Florida laws concerning firearms and carrying / possession of them.

  • Florida statutes prohibit sun screening material on side windows on either side, forward of or adjacent to the operator’s seat…the solar reflectance of visible light of not more than 25% as measured on the no film side and light transmittance of at least 28% in the visible light range. No sun screening may be placed on the front window so as to “encroach upon the driver’s direct forward viewing area…”

As a practical matter, legitimate window tenting businesses know which of their products comply with Florida laws and are not allowed to install sun-screening materials, which do not comply with state statutes. They may have darker material in stock to put on rear side and rear windows as allowed by law.

Window tinting of any sort deteriorates a driver’s visibility, particularly at night. It is strongly urged that you consider this when deciding how dark you wish to tint your windows. Do not trade safety for comfort or style.
    Police Department
  • Florida statutes prohibit the use of “any headlamp, auxiliary or fog lamp, rear lamp, signal lamp, or reflector…which tend to change the original design or performance, unless of a type which has been submitted to the department and approved.” This includes neon lights under a vehicle and around the license plate.

It is a violation of law (arrestable) to display flashing blue lights or red lights unless authorized by statute. If you are not sure whether you are authorized, you probably aren’t.

Decorative covers over tail / stop lights have become popular. Florida statues require that tail lamps “shall emit a red light plainly visible from a distance of 1,000 feet to the rear…”
